Exploring Tokyo’s vibrant cocktail scene and getting overwhelmed? Here are my personal recommendations for bars that offer unique experiences, excellent drinks, and unforgettable atmospheres.
THESE (Nishiazabu)

A quiet, dark bar with cocktails based on a selection of fruits. The second floor has an especially cool vibe with mostly secluded table seating, some secret rooms and is library-themed. It’s not super busy, making it a great spot for a relaxed evening.
Gen Yamamoto (Azabujuban)

Known for its courses of small, high-end cocktails, this bar offers great quality without being too expensive with the compromise that you can’t get a single drink.

Ben Fidditch (Nishishinjuku)

Internationally well-regarded and known for its quirky and creative cocktails. Has a certain steampunk or Narnia vibe. Very small, but popular as it’s ranked #37 on The World’s 50 Best Bars list.

The Bar at Ritz Carlton (Roppongi)

My favorite sky bar along with the New York Bar at Park Hyatt. It’s expensive but offers creative cocktails and is worth it if the visibility is good. Note that a live music fee might apply at certain hours.

SG Club (Shibuya)

One of the most renowned cocktail bars in Tokyo. It has three floors with different settings and is ranked #36 on The World’s 50 Best Bars list.
Ishi no Hana (Shibuya)

Known for its quiet atmosphere and seasonal cocktails, depending on what’s in stock (berries, fruit, etc.). It’s subtle and doesn’t have a “wow” factor, but is enjoyed by connoisseurs. If by some chance you have the original Seiko Coctail Time watch (SARB065), you might be aware that the owner of the bar, Ishigaki Shinobu is the one who collaborated with Seiko to create the watch.

Industrial Lounge (Ebisu)

A unique bar with interesting eclectic-industrial decor, open late. It’s a bit hard to find, but features a very good French bartender, Olivier. His sours are amazing. Mention Petras sent you, and you might get some extra alcohol (or not).
